Embracing the Freelance Life

As I sit down to write this, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey that has led me to this moment—officially stepping into full-time freelancing with Red Rose Media. It’s a decision that fills me with both excitement and a touch of nervousness, but most of all, gratitude.

The story of Red Rose Media began back in February 2022, when I graduated with my master’s in digital marketing leadership. Although I had been using these skills in my role within the NHS, it wasn’t until a friend asked me to help a small business that I truly fell in love with digital marketing. The experience was eye-opening—I saw firsthand the impact that well-crafted digital marketing strategies could have on a small business. Before I knew it, word had spread, and I was helping more businesses, relishing every moment of it.

Helping these businesses grow and thrive sparked something inside me—a passion that I couldn’t ignore. In October 2023, I officially launched Red Rose Media, balancing this new venture alongside my NHS career. It was exhilarating, and the positive feedback from my clients fuelled my desire to do more.

After 16 years with the NHS, making the decision to leave was not easy. My career in the NHS, particularly in communications has been immensely rewarding. I’ve learned so much about effective content writing, managing digital channels, and connecting with the public—skills that have undoubtedly shaped my approach to digital marketing.

But, with every website I optimised, every social media campaign I launched, and every piece of content I crafted for small businesses, it became clear that my heart was leading me in a new direction. As with any big decision, I had my doubts— leaving the security and benefits that came with my NHS role, never running a business before and what comes with that. It was a tough decision. I couldn’t have done it without the support and love of my family and friends.

I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported me on this journey so far. To my clients, thank you for trusting me with your businesses and allowing me to be a part of your growth. Hearing how my work has helped raise your brand awareness or attract more customers has been incredibly rewarding. Knowing that you’ve received positive comments from your own customers and competitors is the greatest compliment I could receive.

To my family and friends, your belief in me has been my anchor. My husband, in particular, has been my rock—his financial support and unshakable confidence in my abilities gave me the courage to take this leap. My wider circle of family and friends have been there every step of the way, offering words of encouragement and reminding me that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of you.

Now, as I dedicate myself fully to Red Rose Media, I am filled with excitement for the future. I’m looking forward to having more time to promote and deliver my services, attend networking events, and establish long-term relationships with my clients.

As I close this chapter on my NHS career, I’m filled with a profound sense of gratitude. This journey has been shaped by so many people—my clients, my family, my friends, and my colleagues—and I am endlessly thankful for all the support I’ve received.

Here’s to new beginnings, continued growth, and the exciting road ahead.
